Recently, the 40th UNESCO World Heritage Committee was held in Istanbul. China got two more UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reaching 50 sites in total and ranked as world No. 2.

UNESCO inscribed 21 new sites to its World Heritage List in 2016. Guangxi Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art Cultural Landscape was designated as “World Cultural Heritage Site”. Meanwhile, Hubei Shennongjia was designated as “World Natural Heritage Site”, since it protects the largest primary forests remaining in Central China and provides habitat for many rare animal species.

The committee believes that Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art illustrates the life and rituals of the Luoyue people who date from the period around the 5th century BCE to the 2nd century CE. The site is the only witness of this culture. The insider said Chinese government will keep protecting the World Heritage Sites.
